Thomas Keneally was a Irish Catholic, born in New South Wales, Australia. He got his education at St. Patrick's College,Strathfield, New South Wales. Later he studied for the priesthood from 1953 to 1960. Keneally was also part of the Australian Citizens Military Forces. He started his career as a high school from 1960 to 1964. Later he lecturer in drama at the University of New England. In 1965 he married Judith Mary Martin his first wife. They had 2 daughters born in 1966 and 1967. He was a winner of countless awards such as the Commonwealth Literary Fund fellowship, 1966, 1968, 1972; Miles Franklin award 1968, 1969; Captain Cook Bicentenary prize in 1970; Royal Society of Literature Heinemann award in 1973; Booker prize in 1982 and Los Angeles Times award in 1983. He was an amazing author and to this day he lives in Sydney with his wife Judith.
